Instructional Rounds

“To reflect on practice we must first observe practice.”

Learning by Heart, Barth 2001

This page has been created to share my research as part of my Masters Program on observing instructional practice in classrooms. Readers might know of my work over the past few years on the use of learning walks or walkthroughs to provide feedback to teachers on instruction. Instructional Rounds is a different process.

Both learning walks and instructional rounds form part of the larger picture about observing and reflecting upon instruction in classrooms. To promote a more interactive dialogue about the research I have created a wiki and would encourage others to join.

For those teachers or leaders looking for a summary of the book click the on the link.InstructionalRoundsSummaryrecommended.

I discovered a useful article on Rounds from the Harvard School of Education’s magazine.

The book introduction is also useful reading and can be accessed via this link http___www.hepg

Two teachers, released by the Victorian Department of Education, to study Instructional Rounds have started a Ning to promote discussion. I encourage others interested in exploring this strategy in their schools to join this discussion.
